Our plastic wheelchair story
PCS1 - Part 1 of The Plastic Chair Series from Free Wheelchair Mission on Vimeo.
This is a true story about one of these plastic wheelchairs. Hope you get inspired!
Once there was a very poor man in a very poor country. He was also handicapped. Inside and out. Outside was very obvious. Inside was even more so for his face displayed the sadness and the pain. One days his old Soviet-type wheelchair broke. A Christian family noticed that he wasn't sitting by the road watching cars pass by and asked his wife if he was all right. He is, Ok, indeed, the wife stated. But his wheelchair, his only means of "transportation" is not. It finally broke from the rough terrain he daily put it on. So, the couple started praying for the situation. They didn't have any money to help them out for the dad didn't have a job, hasn't had one in years. Words of faith in God and trusting Him for a new wheelchair didn't help the man either, in fact it made him even more bitter with a God who was "deaf and blind" to his problem. Actions is what he wanted to see. And see he did! Just a few short days later the couple's friend from the rich USA called to check on them and encourage them to hold on in their own hardship filled lives. The friend found out about the need and send ems to all his friends! A small sum was donated and the money was on its way for the handicapped man to purchase a chair. But, there were no chairs to be purchased in that cursed country for the amount collected. So, the man couldn't buy himself a wheelchair but could get some food instead. Little did he know that Jesus really cared about him and his chair. The friend from the rich USA didn't stop at collecting money but continued looking for ways to bless the man and get him a wheelchair. Unfortunately, the mail couriers in the rich USA wanted too much money to ship a chair. But, God has his network people. An awesome ministry offered to take the wheelchair in their yearly container they ship Christmas presents to the poor children in that country. The way the friend found out about that ministry is an another story, for a later post.
So, the friend buys a wheelchair from another great ministry
Lyrical Life Science vol2 giveaway at MamaArcher
I actually meant to post it a few days earlier (actually, as soon as I found out about it, but with the anticipation of hubby coming home for a visit time was a very expensive commodity). So, now that he is home and we taking a break from school I am excited to have a few extra minutes on hand! More posts this week I hope!
Be blessed!
Lyrical Life Science Volume 2
These are “singing science texts”. The complete program includes the text, tape or CD, and reproducible workbook. Each chapter in the text begins with a song. Memorization of scientific terms and concepts should be fairly painless as students sing such memorable lyrics.
Setting important science concepts with old, familiar tunes, they have created songs teaching the science topics of mammals, ecology, and biomes.
The reproducible workbook has exercises to reinforce the lyrics and textual information and ensure comprehension of the material. The first exercise in each chapter set has students fill in missing keywords from the lyrics. The second quizzes on information from the chapter. This exercise varies somewhat in format. The third exercise is in short answer/essay format and concludes with some “Digging Deeper” questions which require some critical thinking. A complete answer key is provided at the back of the workbook.

Spring break can't be over!
I've been sucked into chess big time lately. I've even played with my 13 yo son (who got me into it to begin with, read my previous post) on line today. We sat next opposite each other today for over an hour and announced our moves. I thought it was funny to do so but it was my first time playing in on chesshere.com and now I am playing with hubby. Hope we can finish the game before he comes home at the end of this week. We plan on setting grandpa (my dad) with an em and chess account. he doesn't have a PC at home but can play live from an internet cafe location near his house (around $1.50 per hour of www use) with our oldest for at least 30 min, we hope. Grandpa doesnt' speak English and our son doesn't speak Russian nor Romanian. So, they won't be able to pass notes without my help, but chess is a game, so they can play without many words I hope. But the bonding time should be great!
I'm off to an early bed time so I can start my week bright and early. Hope you had a great week, even if you didn't have spring break! I hope I can get more accomplished this week. For next one hubby will be home and I want to spend as much time with him as possible! Be blessed!

Mothers can't resign
Weeping may last for the night,But a shout of joy comes in the morning.
I was so inspired by my best friend's post on her newly created blog Mother by Design that I had to post tonite (er, this early am). I knew tomorrow (sorry, I keep forgetting it's a new day already) would have been a better day to start fresh but I just had to do it asap. Besides, my precious hubby would find out about the breakthrough before I even woke up to tell him all about it! See, honey, I am blogging for you, so when you come back home, don't fuss at me to come to bed. I'll be blogging for you! LOL! Oh, and I guess you'll see how late I did make it to bed, huh? I need to figure out how to disable that feature so you don't stress :). Kids actually enjoy fixing their own bfast right now! So, I ain't worried!
Anyway, my friend's blog ministered to me so much at the end of a very long day. I had a very rough beginning of a day myself today with a few of our children. And it did start with the prayer closet. But a child knocked on it to ask for permission to do something and the prayer line went really bad, it must not have been a prayer line after all. I considered resigning just a few short hours after the knock on my prayer closet's door, but like my friend said: where do I go to resign?
But by end of the day it really got so much better. When I read my friend's blog I realized we were in the middle of a similar struggle on the same morning. WOW! How about that? Wish I knew to pray for you, my friend. I sure spent some time in my closet, girl, probably around the same time you did. And though, it didn't seem to do much good shortly after MY talk (failures and shortcomings and forgiveness discussions were all there, my friend) to the kids, our day improved tremendously with a few more ups and downs, but with a much fresher prospective on everyone's part. Joy always comes in the morning, doesn't it? Darkness is always followed by light!!!
But, I have to admit, I am still dreading a bit the sewing project I have to continue tomorrow with my perfectionistic 11 yodd (she is the daughter of her mother, 'nuf said, is that why we disagree so much? Wish we were oppsites!!!. I, out of sheer innocence and just plain wanting to spend some bonding time with her during the spring break involved her in a spring dress making project. With no prior knowledge of pattern sewing I got help from a very sweet friend who helped us learn how to use a pattern the other day and came again yesterday to help us figure out something we got stuck on. I am a bit balder today than before I started. Bonding time didn't go too well with her but it was my fault as well and I totally repented of it and hope to have a better one when she is ready to pick it up again. But I had success with another child later on, almost close to midnite! Long day, huh?
My dh is a early to bed, early to rise. My 13 yo ds has been following in my footsteps lately. So, late nites have been a norm around here since dh is gone. The evening before I spent a long 2 hours playing Scrabble with 2 of my children way past their bed time (why does it take us so long to get used to the time change and juicing every light minute of the day before coming in?. We finished the game at 11pm (we took a spring break, so no need to get up early) It wasn't a very wise choice timewise, for we all slelt in way late, but it was well worth it. I told them I wouldn't repeat the mistake again, well, not soon, I added (I thought I learned my lesson in promising) The very next evening after promising I spent a few hours with our oldest playing chess. I thought that was the best time we've had in a long time. Well, regardless the fact that he beat me every single time. But it was so much laughter, joking and poking around. He brought me to tears a few times (I hate losing even a game I am not too good at) but at least it wasn't because of the issues we've struggled just a few hours prior! Haha!
God is so good. I've had such rocky times with my ds lately! But the Lord opened doors for us to bond together and lighten up! Baby, you must have really prayed tonite after I whined, for it worked, it was like BOOM! Answered prayer! He even finished the dishes ( instead of leaving them for bfast) after we were too tired to see the pieces or the board .
I am so glad to have found a way to spend time with him. I didn't think I had time for chess, though I love the game! I also thought he wouldn't want to play or teach me since he has gotten so advanced (all those nagging to get off chess here might get more frequent now, so I can catch up with him). But he was very patient and helpful, and still won!
I am totally ecstatic to realize that I have to find time for my children and have fun with them playing or doing things they really like (not just school or projects, fun stuff board games, play catch, etc). No, it's not easy to do it with 4 of them and still exercise my various other characteristics of the dad, mom aka the curfew cop, the cook, the laundry lady (not too good at that lately) and all the other ones. It's so hard to switch between I- was- just- your- playmate a few secs ago and now I am seargeant MOM! But, the bonding time, the relaxation that comes with it-can't beat that! Oh, how I love a break from school to actually be able to reconnect with those simple joys we can't always squeeze in on a regular school day.
Spring is awesome, the rain dried up and the fields are ready for our girls to practice ball! Dad will be home the day before their first games! Countdown, as I promised, still going on! 11 more days to go!!!
I just had to include my dd1 spring pic she took a few days ago. I hope she enters it in the photo contest next month. It hasn't been edited yet. It's SOOC! I'll post all the kids' pics later when they are all edited for the contest.

Seasons of chauffering and more countdown to dad's visit
I am so ready for him to chauffeur the kids for a break. I pulled my back yesterday (too early in the day to be thankful for all things working for the good) and had to get 3 kids to their activities later on in the day when the pain was getting worse and nothing was helping. Out of all the days to pull a back! Check it out: 2 girls started softball practices yesterday and they had to be there for their first time, of course! My son had his aviation meet yesterday too! I was able to successfully drop 2 kids, feed myself and remaining 2 at a BBQ joint (me who doesn't even like BBQ but the kids were ecstatic since eating out with mom is a luxury!), drop the 3rd kid, turn around and pick the first one and take her with 4th one home for a break before realizing that an hour later I'd still have to go get the other 2. Now, if you saw me yesterday bet over and to the side a bit using my cute 7yo to help me get out of the car you'd probably get a good chuckle! I know my BIL and SIL would have had a laughing fit ( I am a bit younger than them, ya know!). But, truly, I did look quite pitiful and felt even worse. My 7yo genuinely offered to run into Kroger and pick up some Ibuprofen for me while I sat in the car. Sweet, huh?! I almost said sure baby, here is 10 bucks and keep the change. It was so tempting! But I didn't, protective parent. Instead I waddled, wincing from pain, every step from the handicapped parking ( I didn't care if I did't have a sticker, I was handicapped that day, right?) lot and went thru a series of spasms that almost stopped me from detouring from my regular chocolate isle run(to get my daily fix of my fav Cacao Nibs chocolate) and I forgot all about Ibu. So, I cut my shopping short and made it home safely to pacify my pain with a few squares of chocolate!
I was so glad when the other 2 kids found rides and I crashed in bed! Today was so much better. After a long visit to the cowcraker (chiropractor) I felt a ton better. He also took care of my shoulder that got hurt NY's day skiing. He hated to admit that it was probably the rotator cuff !!! At least it's my left shoulder! Lor willing, it will all get healed soon!
But really, all in all, I am surviving without my dearest hubby. Please, say a prayer for our family to be reunited. We miss him so much! Protect your back! It is priceless, I tell ya!

Welcome to AL, Spring!
You know my favorite funny scene ( I have other serious scenes I love in it too) in the movie Fireproof? When the haughty fireman guy jumps in bed when he finally gets that he was tricked into drinking hot Tobasco while Caleb drank tomato juice in a challenge! Hilarious! My kids rewound that part a few times! I didn’t laugh after the second time for I knew my time would come eventually! LOL!
Well, my moment had come this morning. First day of March snuck up on us with a huge susprise. As if just a few days ago a tournado touchdown just miles away from our house didn't prepare us for any further weather surprises.
A bit of history to clarify my point here and tie up my long winded post, please, thank you for your patience. Last nite I went out with a few of my Russian lady friends to a restaurant to celebrate International Women’s day (March 8- big holiday in the former Soviet block). We were seated at the table I’ve already sat at with our homeschool group moms a few months prior and I mentioned that the thermostat was not willing to cooperate on my last visit and suggested we move to another one. It was really cold again in that room while outside was very nice and we all wanted to enjoy our dinner and not freeze. Luckily, the manager was right there and overheard our conversation with the maĆ®tre. He happily obliged immediately, jokingly stating that with sun and Tshirts today and snow tomorrow his thermostats aren’t quite apt at switching efficiently. I just stared at him and didn’t get it. What snow is he talking about? In AL? That’s how much I keep up with the news. He must have just been exaggerating to excuse his messed thermostat, I thought and watched one of my friends order hot tea. Well, little did I know that I was going to wake up the very next morning to a blanket of white snow (about 1 in) and that's when my TOMATO JUICE kicked in. So, that's what the maitre was saying!
I actually told my oldest to get lost when he thought it was super important to wake me up to inform me about this rare occurrence and to ask me where all the gloves, hats and coats went! ( i just packed them away a few days ago since it was so nice and warm for weeks now) I seriously didn’t believe him! We’ve lived in AL 2 years now and the only snow I’ve seen was last year and it lasted a whole of a 1.5 hours of light flurries, not enough to even build a snowman.
My oldest likes to inform me. I think it’s a teenager thing. As soon as I pulled up the shades I realized he was serious and I saw the girls almost barefoot and clothes on top of PJs making snowmen. Gasp! We just went thru a light cold! He also proceeded to let me know that he's checked his email (yeah! before I even check mine) not to even bother getting the crockpot into the car for the after church pot luck lunch. It was cancelled! I just couldn’t believe my luck today! Church canceled after I stayed up late laboring hard over my crockpot turkey breast because of a bit of snow. It took me a whole lot of 10 min after midnite to accomplish this dish, you know. I am not used to things being canceled because of snow, you know! Life goes on. In my country of birth I remember walking 4-5 miles to work because the snow was so bad all public transportation was limited and it was packed. But, no cell phone to call my job I walked with a coworker for hours. It took me about 30 min to get to work in a trolley or a bus, but we walked for 2 hours. We made it by 11m! But we made it! And we were expected about the time we got there, due to snow problems, you know! Our schools there hardly ever closed because of snow! Kids just trudge thru, parents have to go to work or they don't eat.
Back to good old USA, home sweet home, AL. The roads were clear but I figured the cancellation was for the best. So, a huge turkey breast smelling so yummy was my next focus! I whipped some garlicky cheese biscuits (almost as good as the Red Lobster ones), made a quick gravy and fed a hungry crew who’d already managed to build a snowman, get a few pairs of clothes wet and get really cute red cheeks and sparkles in their eyes! Oh, how little does it take to make a child happy! Teenagers-different story, but why was I going that direction again? Oh, yeah! Teenagers don't think it's cool to play in the snow. Mine just threw a snowball at his sister (keeping 2 feet from the house the whole time ) while she was trying to stack the middle part on the snowman all by herself. The whole thing collapsed when the snowball landed in her face. Tears, disappointment, anger, unjustness... He had to get shoes on and help her put it back together. It was a sight! Get the moral? You reap what you sew! HA!
I am not particularly fond of snow since I’ve had kids. It’s a pain. I thought it was horrible when I was single trying to launder the multiple layers of winter clothes in an old wringer washer after heating pots of water on the stove since hot water was a luxury from the tap. But, now with the comforts of washer and dryer it shouldn't be that daunting, should it? Wet clothes, gloves and other snow related matters… just not for a restful Sunday. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing kids have fun. I am glad I wasn't even once begged to come out and help with the snowman.
But a few minutes of fun result in many minutes of clean up. After the huge b fast clean up we decided to run over (not really, it’s 4 mi away) to Kohl’s and buy a pair of snow pants (I’ve seen on sale last week) for one of the girls (2 of them already had some that they haven't outgrown totally yet) and maybe get a pair of clearanced winter boots (which we found both!) . That took a while since there were so many 75% and 90% off racks and with 4 girls (my neighbor’s girl came along and what kind of crazy woman shops with 4 girls under the age of 11 in snow, huh?) it took a while to get out of there. Actually, we didn’t do too badly considering. We walked out with a brand new set of PJ’s (each girl), snow pants and a pair of clearance winter boots. Not bad at all, considering the amount of time, effort and pleading to keep some items, it took me to narrow it down.
So, it’s 6pm now, everyone fed on a Sam’s pizza (yuck, it was horrible today), kids back from outside yet again (they were asked to build a snowman for a neighbor whose kids were all grown) and wet socks and gloves scattered all over (I know I only had 3 kids playing outside for a just a few hours, but how many gloves and wet sock do I see? Unmatched too?) and I am already thinking about going to bed and facing another school day that I hardly had time to prepare for. Oh, wait, maybe I have a friend coming over? That’s right! I almost forgot in my busyness. So, the weekend is not over. I do deserve a day’s rest after a heavy snow occurrence :) and who can stop me from making myself one? We’ll learn socializing skills tomorrow. That counts as learning, right? School kids would be out more than probably if there is still snow tomorrow on our lawn. So, we won’t be that much behind!
